Avon Launches Music Video with Icona Pop to Celebrate the Courage of Women

The song “All My Girls” is part of the #Stand4Her movement, a campaign to honor and support young women to dream higher by sharing life-changing stories

March 8th 2018, International Women’s Day: Around the world, millions of girls are still unable to fulfil their dreams due to economic, social and political barriers. Yet despite this difficult reality, many are breaking down boundaries, shattering stereotypes and standing up for their causes. On this International Women’s Day, Avon celebrates young female changemakers through the #Stand4Her movement, which includes a music video in addition to a website that features the success stories and personal causes of fearless young women from several countries.

Recorded in Stockholm by Swedish electro-pop duo Icona Pop, formed by Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, the “All My Girls” music video was inspired by stories of courage featured in the #Stand4Her movement. The video serves as a message of encouragement and as a tribute to these fearless girls who are promoting social change. The video will be available on the website stand4her.com, along with the stories of these young social entrepreneurs, writers, athletes and artists. These are stories from amazing women like Evelina Cabrera, a 31-year-old Argentinian who grew up in poverty and became a soccer coach and founder of the Argentinian Women's Football Association (AFFAR) and Buenos Aires’ first-ever blind women’s soccer team. Or MC Soffia, a 13-year-old Brazilian rapper who has gained fame by tackling racism in her lyrics and helping black youths to stand up for their rights.

South Africa, Ntuwiseni Marubini made ends meet selling tomatoes from door to door to in the dusty streets of Thohoyandou in Venda, Limpopo. Her primary aim each day was to ensure she earned at least R15 so that her family had a loaf of bread for supper.  It was while selling to a new customer that she first heard of Avon and how she could make a more sustainable income to feed her family. She traded in her tomato business for a cosmetics one and is enjoying the sweet smell of success. Ntuwiseni bought her first car to enable her to cover more ground quicker and increase her customer base. With her ambition, her new car was soon raking up serious mileage. In fact her strategy worked so well that she had to buy a small truck for her business. This made transporting her products easier with the truck being more suited to the terrain. Earlier this year she bought her third car which she only uses for her family. “It’s a way of rewarding myself for all the hard work. Looking back to the days when I was selling tomatoes, I never dreamed that one day I would be able to give my children the best education possible never mind owning three cars and a comfortable home”.

With six million Independent Sales Representatives, and as one of the biggest corporate supporters focused on female causes, Avon is more than a beauty company – it’s a global network of women. Since 1886, Avon has been empowering women to live on their own terms by offering them an alternative to achieve economic independence at a time where they were not even able to vote in most of the countries. #Stand4Her is another step in the company’s mission of inspiring and creating a world with more empowered women.

“We believe that when girls see other women changing the world, they feel inspired and encouraged to do the same,” says Danielle Bibas, Avon’s Chief Brand Communication & Content Officer. “We want girls and young women to know that they have the right to dream higher, and they are not alone. Supporting women is supporting a better future. This campaign brings our mission as a company to life, which is creating a world with more empowered women. And a world with more empowered women is a more beautiful world,” Danielle concludes.

To join this movement and to learn more about these real stories of female empowerment, go to stand4her.com.

Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week welcomes a Jockey by David Tlale unveiling
29 March 2017
It was with great excitement that the next collection of the innovative Jockey by David Tlale collaboration was unveiled at the most prominent fashion extravaganza of the year, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. With the fantastic response to the first collaboration, Live Fierce, it is anticipated that the crowds will fall head over heels for the new Jockey by David Tlale range.

“The theme of this collection is called What’s Beneath. Inspiration was taken from the natural contours and movement of the body, and is about the hidden desires of the soul. It gloriously unmasks what we try to hide from society, all those elements that make us beautifully human. It speaks of fantasy, luxury, sensuality and indulgence, leaving the consumer feeling gorgeous,” explains David Tlale.

To unveil this range, Jockey is proud to announce that former Miss South Africa 2008, Tatum Keshwar is on board as the Brand Ignitor of the Jockey by David Tlale Autumn/Winter 2017 collaborative range. “Having Tatum associated with our exquisite range really entrenches the fact that this line is sensual and sexy. It is classy and sophisticated,” says Jenna Carter, Brand Manager for Jockey.

She continues, “David is an internationally respected, award-winning designer.  As one of the most recognisable faces in the fashion industry, Jockey is delighted to further collaborate with him on another spectacular range of underwear. With both brands being at the forefront of our respective industries the result is, quite simply, phenomenal”.

The Jockey South Africa license was awarded to Ninian & Lester (Pty) Ltd, from USA, in 1951 and the first Jockey garments were launched 2 years later in 1953.  Since then, they have firmly entrenched themselves as one of the largest manufacturers of underwear in South Africa. Jockey retails underwear and sleepwear garments for men, women and children who love the idea of living life to the fullest, and looking and feeling fabulous.
“Again, it has been a fantastic experience for our design team to work with a South African fashion icon. Our knowledge of underwear combined with David’s fashion expertise, enabled our design team to take David’s vision and conceptualise a range that is very different to anything Jockey has ever done before. What’s Beneath incorporates new fabrics, designs, colours, and silhouettes that align the brand with current market trends, making it appealing to a more trendy, edgier market,” ends Carter.

The Jockey by David Tlale What’s Beneath range of garments will be available in Jockey stores nationally and select retail stores for Autumn/Winter 2017.

8 March 2016

In the name of International Woman's Day I present you with this unique story...

Zimbabwean-born artist, Jeanne-Marie Webb, who now lives in Cape Town with her husband and two teenage daughters, has put rooibos very firmly on the global art world’s centre stage as she continues to bedazzle art-lovers from far-flung places with her delicate paintings on none other than rooibos teabags. The concept behind her year-long “One Face a Day” project, which was recently exhibited in the Mother City, started a few years ago when she searched tirelessly for the perfect miniature substrate for her paintings.

“I happened to stumble upon a tattered old rooibos teabag one night whilst rummaging through one of my old paper boxes, and I thought, why not? It proved to be the perfect canvas for what I had in mind and I absolutely love the concept of creating unique pieces of art on a teabag,” says Webb.

Through the years, she’s tested various teabags, but it’s the red residue on rooibos teabags, when mixed with a primer, that results in the perfect skin-tone for her portraits.

“I had no idea that the medium would become such a hit. During my ‘One Face a Day’ project, scores of Facebook friends asked if they could join me, which later evolved into an online workshop as I shared the process of how to paint creative portraits on tiny rooibos tea bags with art-enthusiasts from around the world. The growing interest led to hundreds of artists flocking to buy rooibos tea on Amazon, and there’s no sign of this trend letting up just yet,” says Webb.

This past week’s online auction which was open to international buyers, saw her selling in excess of 150 paintings to overseas buyers. About 130 was sold to local art collectors at her recent exhibition. She is also booked to do another online auction later this year which will include some of her other works and remaining rooibos teabag paintings. Interested buyers can go to www.jeannemarieart.com for more info.

Ernest du Toit, director of the SA Rooibos Council says the trend is on the up as more artists use rooibos tea bags and even dried tea leaves in their art.

“Artists are on a constant watch to find new mediums to perform their art in. Taking inspiration from sand-painting, in which grains of sand, are corralled to create an image, many artists are realising the same can be done with tea.

“It’s also a great way to upcycle and gives rooibos teabags a second life. Artists can enjoy a cup of tea first and then save the tea bag for when they want to work on it. Rooibos tea can also be used as a subtle dye or can be pasted as pieces of empty bags into a two-dimensional painting. Take Colorado artist, Wewer Keohane, for example. Her most striking creations are teabag kimonos (robes). Each garment combines at least 600 steeped, dried and glued bags into a work of art that, while fragile, is actually wearable too.

“Ruth Tabancay of Berkeley, Calif, has even made quilts out of tea bags. Her quilts are full-sized and some take as many as 1 400 tea bags to complete. The concept of painting on or using tea bags in art is truly unique, and forces artists to work on a canvas that isn’t blank, but is instead imprinted with odd colours and textures. The creative possibilities are endless,” says du Toit.

4 November 2016

Hey Beesy Bees!
We have some interesting news for all our foodies! Something new and innovative will be landing our South African shores this NOVEMBER.

First Access is a website that offers South African diners “first access” to the first table of the evening, for two to four people at an exclusive restaurant that has partnered with the brand. This brand speaks to a mainly millennial, but also an older, audience who appreciate the finer things in life. First Access is similar to the concept "First Table" in New Zealand, and serves as a free marketing platform for restaurants in South Africa.

Co–owner of First Access and professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter, Irshaad Sayed says that “deciding where to eat is one thing I don’t like to fight about.  Having a list of restaurants helps a lot, but the additional 50% discount is a definite win!”

How the concept works:
Through registering, consumers have access to five star restaurant deals which will only cost R100 to purchase. Upon the consumer “Snatching” the deal, the restaurant will be notified regarding the reservation and a confirmation email will be sent to the client.

Restaurant owners have the opportunity to upload deals and specials, as well as their own terms and conditions. First Access encourages consumers to review restaurants as a way to encourage other prospective consumers to join the community, as well as to remind restaurants of their commitment to providing five star experiences.

First Access will officially launch 11 November.
Watch out for this!
Thank you for reading!
With Love, Light and Blessings.

Help Raise Breast Cancer Awareness at the 11th Annual Avon Justine iThemba Walkathon & Spread the Message that Early Detection Saves Lives

11 September 2016

Hey guys!
Avon Justine is once again busy gearing up for their annual iThemba Walk for a Purpose, Walkathon. SA's largest breast cancer awareness event will take place on Sunday, 23 October at Marks Park, Emmarentia in Johannesburg.  With over 25 500 participants last year, this event has become the largest single day event in the country held purely to generate awareness of breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the leading type of cancer in women. In South Africa,  it is the most prevalent cancer amongst white and Asian women and the second most common cancer among black and coloured women. Education and awareness is therefore critical since most cases are treatable when diagnosed in time. According to Dr Carol Ann Benn, renowned surgeon and Founder of the Breast Health Foundation, the two biggest stumbling blocks in breast health care in South Africa are awareness and access. She believes that the Avon Justine’s funding of the Breast Health Foundation’s education programme, donations and involvement with the Walkathon beautifully addresses both these key issues.

Registrations are open! Adults pay R120 while children between the ages of two and twelve pay R80 to participate and toddlers up to the age of two enter for free. All participants must pre-register via www.ithembawalkathon.co.za or a printed entry form. Friendly dogs can be registered for Free.
The start of the 2016 iThemba Walkathon will be  initiated in waves with designated groups of up to 10 000 people beginning their walk for a purpose at 8h00 for the red group, 8h15 for the blue group and 8h30 for the green group respectively. Water stations will be available at strategic points of the 7.9 km or 5KM routes but walkers are encouraged to also have their own supply of water for themselves and their dogs so they can fully enjoy this epic event. At the finish line, walkers will be met with a number of exciting activities with nutriphase also giving away prizes and treats for friendly dogs, Locum Vet will also be onsite to assist with minor issues such as scuffed paws.

With an exciting repertoire of live entertainment planned including Kaya FM Deejays, e TV Sunrise presenters and other local artists as well as numerous enterprising food stalls and other activities participants will be able to relax and enjoy the rest of the day with family and friends after their walk. At the end of the Walkathon, participants can also make their dedication with ribbons on the Woman & Home Trees of Hope. The Woman & Home ribbons can be purchased when registering.

Walkers will also once again have the opportunity to be part of a historic moment through the #PoutForAPurpose world record attempt at this year’s iThemba Walkathon. In line with the company’s Beauty for A Purpose mission statement, this will be an Avon world record attempt for the most number of people applying lipstick at the same event. For those not based in Johannesburg – put on your pinkest Avon pout, take a photograph and upload it social media using the hashtag #PoutForAPurpose.

The objective of the Avon Justine iThemba Crusade of Hope programme is to ensure that the message that early detection saves lives is spread across the country so that women know the importance of breast health and having their annual mammograms as well as undertaking their monthly self-examinations. Through the various strategic partnerships with NGOs as well as the iThemba Walkathon Avon Justine has been able to reach over fifteen million South Africans already through media publicity and is working towards reaching twenty million by the end of the year. “It is estimated that with early detection, over 30% of deaths due to breast cancer can be prevented, and events such as the Avon Justine iThemba Walkathon are a great way to spread the message that early detection really does save lives,” say Vicky Saunders- Flaherty.

As the world’s largest philanthropic supporter of women’s causes, Avon has donated over $1 Billion towards women’s causes. In South Africa R20 million has been donated to organisations such as the Breast Health Foundation (BHF) / Bosom Buddies, Look Good… Feel Better (LGFB) and the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) since 2001.

The Avon team look forward to seeing you and your families at this year’s event – everyone is welcome as we unite together and Walk For A Purpose. Early detection saves lives.

Before you go! That's not all.. I am willing to help you get your best #PoutforAPurpose on by presenting  you with this exciting giveaway.  You can stand a chance of winning the products from Avon's latest denim colour trend range, consisting of:

A denim daze plump out Mascara, denim daze lipstick, denim daze liquid eyeliner and a denim daze nail colour by simply liking the Miss2Beesy Facebook Page and telling me what the mission is of this event/ intuitive on my facebook wall.

Jockey and David Tlale launch the ‘Live Fierce’ range

22 August 2016

Bold. Contemporary. Sexy. This is ‘Live Fierce’ – the new collaboration between global underwear brand, Jockey, and top South African designer, David Tlale.

I had the opportunity to attend the Cape Town ‘Live Fierce’ Pre-Launch Event held at Villa 47 on Bree Street. Jockey officially launched the new range in the Mother city as well as in Johannesburg, signalling the debut of ‘Live Fierce’ in retail stores across the country.
A brand at the forefront of its industry, we are always looking at new ways to modernise and keep our customers excited with what we have to offer. We are extremely proud of our partnership with David Tlale, and with what we, as two leading brands, have accomplished with this new range. It’s edgy and striking, and yet still has all the qualities that Jockey is so well known for – being good quality and a great fit, explains Rob Hogg, Jockey National Sales Manager.
Earlier this year, to coincide with the Mercedez Benz Fashion Week, Jockey and David Tlale announced their exciting partnership, with a promise to unveil a new range by summer 2016.Jockey by David Tlale is unique and we are confident that customers will, quite simply, love it, says Hogg.
One of the most recognisable faces in the fashion industry, David is an internationally respected and award-winning designer. With its raw textures and shadow motifs, inspiration for the new range is borne from David’s theatrical approach to fashion, which bears a strong African and baroque influence. The range includes a diversity of men’s and ladies’ garments which have been designed and manufactured, with creative input from both David’s and the Jockey design team, and emphasises the signature David Tlale flair,” confirms Hogg.
Boasting prints, bold features and fierce confidence, the Jockey by David Tlale range is racy, bold and sexy. Designed to make the wearer realise their inner powerful self, this range makes a statement in every essence, proclaiming an independent culture and revealing mightiness.
Jockey is an internationally renowned brand that has been in the undergarment space for decades. I am extremely excited by this partnership with them, as I know that together we have created something special. It’s something really beautiful and sexy and I know the men and women of South Africa are just going to love it,confirms David Tlale.
History of Jockey in SA:
The Jockey South Africa license was awarded to Ninian & Lester (Pty) Ltd, from USA, in 1951 and the first Jockey garments were launched two years later in 1953. Since then, they have firmly entrenched themselves as one of the largest manufacturers of underwear in South Africa. Jockey retail underwear and sleepwear garments for men, women and children who love the idea of living life to the fullest, and looking and feeling fabulous.
“The range is something so revolutionary, so loud and so unique. We are confident that this range will allow our customers to walk with a fierceness that can only come from within,” ends Hogg.

I now leave with my top three sets from the collaboration collection.

1. My favourite set from the Whimsical range
2. Sensual Silhouette

3. Simple Sexy
Jockey is available at the at Jockey Stores located in Johannesburg and at selected chain stores.

Hi All!

We recently the opportunity to interview Emile and Razia who have been crowned the winners of the South African Reality show called Power Couple SA. Emile and Razia answers a wide array of questions and without further ado we present you with what they said and a few stunning pictures of this couple.

1. Where are you originally from and what do you do on a day to day basis (Work)?
Emile: I am from Cape Town and I’ve just slotted in to a visual communications department for one of SA’s well-renowned fashion retailers. My day entails conversations about when a window campaign is launching, whether we can use less of our printing budget if we print onto a solid decal or one with 70% opacity rather, and also which boots would make that patchwork skirt look more attractive and commercial.

Razia: I am from East London and I work for a Fashion Recruitment Agency.  I place Buyers, Planners, Marketing Managers etc. In the Fashion Retail space.

2. How long have you been married for and how has the journey been?
Razia: We have been married for 10 years and the journey has been amazing.  Many highs and lows, always learning new things and striving to keep moving to the next level in our relationship.

Emile: We are married for 10 years and 3 months now. The journey has been as expected. You make a few pit stops here and there, fill up for fuel when your reserves are running low, and sometimes you move in to the fast lane because you need to achieve something quicker than if you’re going 60km. Razia is an amazing co-driver and I’m grateful.

3. What is the first thing you do in the morning and what is the last thing you say to each other before you leave home?

Razia: The first thing Razia does is turn on the coffee machine and then attempts to wake Emile up.  The last thing we say to each other before leaving home is usually “I love you” but sometimes I (Razia) will exchange some heated words if  getting the girls ready was a challenge. :-)

Emile: I try to stomach the usually strong coffee that Razia brews as a first thing – that’s when I went to sleep too late to do the 4am wake up in order to Crossfit. I really should be reading something life-changing and wise, first thing in the morning so that is one of my goals for the year. The last thing I say to Razia before we leave home is “Love you Babe, all the best with today”.

4. If anyone had to tell you guys in your younger years that one day you will be crowned as South Africa’s power couple. What would your reaction have been?
Razia: Disbelief!!!

Emile: Laughter for sure. We have never once in our married life (and me especially during my single-hood) viewed ourselves as a power couple.

5.  Besides us knowing you guys as the countries power couple you can also be crowned as a very stylish couple. What does your individual style consist of and how do you bring your style together so that it compliments each other?

Emile: Thank you for the compliment Miss2Beesy. My individual style is very much a functional one. I have to run around and achieve a mountain of goals per day at work so I enjoy being comfortable. I enjoy my apparel being casual and backing that up with shoes that are less casual to bring a balance to it all. I am not dare-devil individualistic in my dress sense but I don’t enjoy copying a look exactly the way I may see it in a pic. There are so many factors to consider when selecting clothing… some colours are exceptionally terrible for a warm skin tone, certain silhouettes (shapes) work better for a taller person, and certain styles are amazing in one type of fabric but super-bad in another, say, more rigid woven one.

Emile also answer's this question on Razia's behalf, a true fashion fanatic! And says,
"Razia’s style is influenced secondarily by fashion magazines, Pinterest, and Instagram, and primarily inspired by what I  speak about".

Bringing our style together is sometimes a clash. When we were still dating, Razia and I would end up with the same top-colour and same jeans-colour just before leaving the house and making our way somewhere. It frustrated me. Fortunately this does not happen much any more, or we really don’t care that much about it happening now. We have a good understanding of colour and as a result always ensure we look unified when we step out of the house J

6. Emile, I have read that Razia stated that you can shop for her without her being around. With that being said, what is Razia’s favourite South African and International designer label?

International has to be River Island and DSquared
Local is Gert-Johan Coetzee and JJ Schoeman

7. On the Power Couple SA reality show you faced and succeeded a tremendous amount of challenging situations. Could you say that your past experiences have made it a bit easier to overcome it or was the level of tests like no other experience before?

Razia: Our Power Couple SA experience was definitely like nothing we have ever experienced before but our faith and 16 year relationship assisted in us overcoming the challenges that we faced.

Emile: Nothing could have prepared me for what Power Couple SA had in store. I am the least active and least competitive person I know so I was never really intrigued by competing… ever! Being a part of the show turned everything upside down in my world. The stress was unexplainable.

8. How did overcoming your individual fears and phobias on the show contribute towards how you handle situations in your everyday life as a couple now?

Razia:  I think I had the most fears compare to the other contestants on the show.  Overcoming them on the show has made me more tolerable to certain things like when I discovered the girls dwarf hamster got out of her cage at 5am. When I saw her next to the washing machine instead of streaming and jumping up onto the table I just got a piece of cheese, enticed her with that, covered her with a large basin and then woke Emile up.  LOL.  Before the Power Couple experience I would have woken up the whole complex with my screaming!!!!

Emile: I am a bit scared of heights. There were a few times where I had to face this reality in the show. Its difficult to measure the impact that this fear-facing had on our everyday lives. We are definitely more positive about the future as well as a lot more grateful for the little things that life offers.

9. Where do you draw inspiration from and what can SA expect from its power couple in the near future?

Razia: We draw inspiration from God and His word.  We love fashion and SA can look out for our website which will be launching in the next week or so to find out what we have been up to and what we have planned for the future.

Emile: Everyone around me is an inspiration to me in some way.

10. Lastly, what would you say is the most important elements to a successful marriage and any words of inspiration to young couples?

Razia: Trust, honesty, respect, communication, compromise and compassion.   You need these characteristics to have a successful relationship. To the young couples, be yourselves, put each other first, don’t allow others to influence your relationship.  Be true to yourself and your partner.

Emile: The basics are important in marriage. Listening to your partner is important. Being sensitive to your partner’s needs is vital. Share in their joy and their sorrow. Celebrate one another’s strengths.

7th March 2016

Hello and welcome to a brand new interview series that will be bringing you many interesting life stories. I will be interviewing female South African entrepreneurs on a regular basis from various business sectors and industries. The aim of these interviews is to inspire, motivate young female entrepreneurs and also show them that it is possible to be successful. Above all of that it is also to share the journey of these successful women with the rest of the world and make their voices heard.

First up, we interviewed Monique Govender who is the owner of  Queen Bee Hair Boutique situated in Parow, Cape Town. I met Monique the very first time I stepped into her salon which is very rare because, customers/ client don't normally get to speak to the owners the first time they visit. After receiving a warm welcome from her she advised me well and I was excited to see the end result of my hair. Monique won the Black Business Charter SA woman award and competition in August 2014 which is sponsored by Standard Bank and a few other notable organisations. Queen Bee Salon has grown tremendously well and  have also added a coffee shop to their premises for the convenience of  their clients but, you will hear more about all this in the interview below.

1. Monique thank you for taking time to chat to me could you please tell us a about yourself?
I am a mom of two daughters. One is turning 7 and the eldest daughter is 15 years old. Being a wife and a mom inspired me to ensure that the salon is very family oriented. Therefore, we have the kids playroom and coffee shop for the dads.
2. I know Queen bee was established back in December 2012 but, before then what kept you busy?
I came from a corporate background and worked for SARS for a few years and then I worked for Foschini. I thereafter, decided to join my husband in business and became very board. I then felt the need to help young single mothers who had the skill but, didn't get the opportunity to use it to their full potential. I  decided to go and study and grew a big passion for beauty and that's how I ended up with these ladies.

3. Queen Bee has grown very well and you can be described as a very driven person, what keeps you inspired?
Press play for her reply :)

4. One of the biggest highlights of this journey was when you won the black business award and competition, what was this experience like?
Winning the competition was exciting, overwhelming and it definitely assisted my business in the sense of opening avenues of ideas and taught me a lot. That is where the other added services comes from for example the coffee shop. So that when the wife comes in for her hair she can relax and her husband can enjoy something  at the coffee shop while the child/ children are playing in the kids playroom.

5. You recently launched your website for Queen Bee, what type of information would clients be able to find on there regularly?
Everything will be on our website including all our latest packages, price lists and discounts. All our charity projects will be posted on there and how our business assists the community.

6. Working with a bunch of qualified and very fun team must be a great joy. Tell, us what you do to keep them motivated?
I show them love and I teach them how important all of them are to this business because, it does not only consist of me but, it's a team effort. I therefore, need to be very patient with them because, we all come from different walks of life.

7. How important would you say "me time" is to you and how do you go about it?
"Me Time" is God's time.
Building a relationship with God in that quiet time that you have while looking after your hair, nails, your body physically and emotionally. That is why Queen bee is here to pamper each and everyone.

8. Where would you say you would want to see yourself and Queen bee in the next 5 years?
Well, I have drawn up a plan for myself and we will be doing more events for corporate companies and wellness days. I see myself opening up small pop-up Queen Bee salons in various corporate buildings for those interested in a quick wash and blow to feel good while at work.

9. What would be your 3 key elements to be a successful female entrepreneur in South Africa?
You need to be very disciplined and don't spend the money that is not yours which belongs to the business therefore, pay yourself a salary. Work out a system that works for your team (employees), you and most of all the business for the future. Lastly, have fun, enjoy what you do and be passionate about it.
Thank you for reading!
I hope that you enjoyed it and that it answered some of your questions.
Remember, "you can either go to work or you can be the boss."- M2B

Designers showcase cruise couture fit for the Captain’s Table
Durban - Fashion crowds could only but gasp at the first-class collections that floated down the wooden runway as part of the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Experience Show presented by Durban Fashion Fair at Greyville Racecourse in building up to race day. Creations dreamt up by the eight Vodacom Durban July Invited Designer Showcase stars, the ten KwaZulu-Natal fashion students from the Young Designer Award and ten aspiring Fashion Challenge entrants dazzled all and carried the prestigious essence of the Vodacom Durban July.
Durban’s Invited Designers Terrence Bray, Haroun Hansrot, Brenda Quin, Sibu Msimang, Colleen Eitzen, Jane Wolff and Dale McCarthy from McCarthy & Wolff, and Hangwani Nengovhela and Craig Jacobs from Johannesburg showcased their designs to the jazzy sounds of a house band, their designs gathering inspiration from everything but the ordinary. Fashion from centuries past, marine life and of course the elegance and glamour famous of the Africa's Greatest Horseracing Event were all represented in the fashion theme, 'The Captain’s Table'.
Bray created a powerful piece of art and social commentary with his golden African princess, tapping into the anti-colonist feeling he believes South Africa is currently experiencing. “I researched the whole concept of captaining, authority and slavery and found a J.M.W Turner painting called “The Slave Ship”. The colours are vibrant and fiery with sunset tones and there’s an aggression about it that I just love. It’s quite ironic how something beautiful can be created out of something negative."

Msimang wowed audiences with her unique take on the theme, using intricate knotting accented with pops of colour through her garments and accessories. “I didn't want to go with the obvious nautical theme choosing to use macramé, which is a knotting technique and was used by sailors to sell items they made when they docked on shore.”

Durban’s Hansrot was inspired by a vintage high tea at the Captain’s Table, his elegant and classy looks reminiscent of glamorous dinners of the past. For his showstopper he opted for, “a touch of the sea with a tulle that has been hand dyed with six different shades of emerald green. The silhouette is a mermaid cut and gives the effect of a mermaid emerging from the waves.”
It was an instinctive interpretation for established designer Nengovhela as her Rubicon Clothing label. “It resonates the opulence and luxury that spoke to era of the 1920s,” she said. Her timeless pieces were flirty and accentuated with some understated pearls.
Quin looked at old and new and threw in some Gatsby inspiration too. “The dusty pinks and wine colours were inspired by the stunning corals under the ocean,” she said. She also incorporated current fashion trends in her designs, including a knitted hoodie and a men’s jacket tailored out of velvet.
Eitzen was inspired by life around her, the waves of the silver hued sequins present on her design representing the ocean that she loves. “I took some old school laid back glam and mixed that up with the act of dressing up for dinner.”
Another ocean inspiration came in the colourful creations of Jacobs, his cobalt blue, marine green and coral fabrics shining on the runway. The textured pieces also used one of his favourite African fabrics, shweshwe fabric, and were, “inspired by the corals reefs of the KZN coastline, one of our nation’s great treasures!”

Gold hues took centre stage with McCarthy & Wolff’s range as their sparkling and ethereal outfits incorporated delicate metal work into their detailed designs. “We took the fantasy angle with our designs using sunken treasure and scenes from the captain’s table from centuries back as our inspiration.” As bridal designers their romantic menswear shone light on the elaborate and gilded ladies outfits.

As the Invited Designers are part of a showcase there are no prizes but each designer is presented with R5000 from Gold Circle and R1000 gift card for the Gateway Theater of Shopping. Fashion lovers who didn't manage to catch all the action will be able to see all the glamorous outfits on July 4 on race day.The 2015 Vodacom Durban July takes place at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday 4 July. More information can be found at www.vodacomdurbanjuly.co.za

If I had to attend this year's Vodacom Durban July I certainly would be wearing marine colours in turquoise etc. To all those race goers may it be a memorable experience and all the best to all the participants taking place in the race. You could follow the race event by searching for the official VDJ hash-tag on social media (#VDJ2015). You could also stay tuned to Miss2Beesy for more updates.

March 2015

Miss2Beesy had the opportunity to chat with this young talented fellow who is making is way to the top. His music is a product of his own, which is a true reflection of who he is, where he came from and where he is heading towards. We were fortunate to ask him questions that are not always answered when seen on stage or on TV, but this is what he said...

1. So firstly Jimmy, where are you from and please share with us a brief background about yourself?
I was born and raised in the 7764, Athlone. I sang my entire life taking part in many community, church and schooling events. I have a degree in Sociology and Journalism, and I am currently 22 years old. I love sushi and I am a sucker for my new found love Nutella.

2. If you could describe yourself in three words, what would it be?
Raw. Ambitious. Spiritual

3. I have noticed that you have lost some weight since your last album, has some lifestyle changes have been taking place? If so, what is your daily routine?
Yes, I have. I've lost 18KG over the past year. I've really changed the way that I run my life. I really enjoy hiking and running. It's something that I wasn't always physically good at but now it's a hobby.

4. With that being said, your music started a while back while playing in church. Do you still take part in such performances?
Not as much as I'd like to but I now do a lot for my church as Jimmy Nevis - so I perform at community outreach and some private events in the church when I can.

5. I absolutely enjoyed subliminal but I really can see how much you have grown as a person and in music which can be seen in MISSCATO. Tell us some more about that journey and the transitions.
Growing up, I would love listening and studying the musical change of season or era within an artist's career. I love when artists can expand and really learn and explore. They say that you change and learn so much about yourself and your surroundings when you travel and it's the same with music. I think my sound is still very pop, but it's continuously finding new ways to evolve and creatively give an honest description of who I am.

6. Your style has changed as well. What inspires you and the trends that you are following as well as creating (e.g. Bandanna trend?)

I think I like to push the boundaries a little. I pride myself on creativity and fashion is no exception - it's a space to see what's out there and really find new ways of communicating your identity and what you represent. Most of my trends (hats, bandanas, cut off gloves, etc..) were not strategic real - it's all about keeping it real.. But still on point.

7. I admire your patience and have observed how you treat all your fans as if they are the only one, especially when taking pictures with them, how do you manage this?
I think I understand their worth and so I value them and really make an effort to give them what they want and what they are worth.

8. The journey of your newest single 7764 has caught many of us by storm already, especially those who come from similar backgrounds. What has your experience been shooting the video in the heart of where you come from?
It was very intense - in the best way. They really came out and supported me while we were shooting by letting us get into their washing, their homes and their turf. It's great to know that I inspire them the way they inspire me.

9. Your music has hit international charts, how has that been going and is there any new developments you would like to share?
At the moment it's going okay, there aren't any new developments. I'll be going down to the states at some point this year to start getting the ball rolling that side - Show them some South African Pop.

10. Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

Well, I'd love to get Lira, AKA and Jay Z on one of my tracks. I'm drawn to these people for their music and what they represent.
Well, there you have it ladies right from our very own local chart topper. I am looking forward to seeing how he will grow in the near future and I am sure you are too. A big Thank You to Jimmy Nevis for showing us another side to him! If you would have a question for Jimmy Nevis or had one which was answered in this interview, then let us know by commenting below.

Before I go here is his single 7764 recorded by media24, listen to it now. :)

Thanks for reading and note that your feedback is of value to me so please do comment.

Exclusive interview with Shane Roberts From Second Skins

Last Friday I eased into the weekend with a very fun, quirky and creative fashion show hosted by the New Apostolic Church youth group. This fashion show took place at a high school hall in one of Cape Town’s suburbs know as Mitchells Plain. This was an interactive youth activity that allowed youth to act and perform in their own skin. Whilst still being able to raise some funds for their future activities. Speaking about skin… lol Shane Roberts showcased a few beautiful swimwear pieces which you can find from Second Skins.
Shane Roberts is a designer at Second Skins and he kindly agreed to put the show together and style the youth “models”. This made it extremely exciting and hyped up the evening so much more. I can recall going backstage during the show to try and get some inside scoop for you guys but Shane was to occupied at the time and agreed to speak to me after the show. WATCH THIS!

Second Skins is known for their swimwear and as mentioned before a technical brand. Second Skins is privately owned by South African manufactures who are situated in Lansdowne, Cape Town. They are known for good quality and does not only manufacture swimwear but running gear as well. This company to me seems like a family brand as it caters for Mom, dad and all the kids. But where do I fit in? I am not a mom nor a dad and I don’t have kids? I do believe after seeing these sexy swimwear designs there are more than one costume that has my name written all over it. Besides I need to get myself some second skin tops and leggings for that morning jog I aim to have in the morning (NEW YEARS RESOLUTION…!) LOL .Second skins can hereby be known as a brand that sees to all your swimming needs.
I always wondered why is it called second skins…huh? A skin on top of another skin? Well it’s the fabric used to manufacture it which does all the wonders. Which is able to protect your skin from sun, keep you warm or cool (keep-me-cool range) like a second skin on top of your body. You can just about imagine how soft this is and body friendly.

You can find these at the Second Skins Factory shop,  Sportsmans Warehouse and check their website.

Summer = Swimwear+ Second Skin X Sexiness
So get your summer on !
Till Later
Ps. Don't forget to comment below I love hearing your opinion ;-)

Wow! Its amazing how fast time flaw by. Within the next couple of days we will be celebrating a day that most of us look forward to all year long.

For those of you who don’t know, I am a volunteer at NACTV channel which is hosted on DSTV.  I started with NACTV early this year and have enjoyed every moment. I have gained lots of experience and managed to meet fantastic people. I have written about my journey before which you can read over here. I have to add I have grown a lot yet I feel there is still room for improvement.
We prepare and recode links in advance and have to write our own scripts. This time around we were specifically preparing links for Christmas and New Year’s Day. A very excited and festive period of time which made these links extra special. We had to create a festive spirit and the team redecorated the set which made much it more fun. All presenters were dressed up in red and I opted for a red halter neck top which I actually wore on Christmas day a few years ago.You can view my look post for this shoot Here. In my blog as you might have seen , I try to include every aspect of my life to stay true to my name and so that you can be included in my life’s journey. I really want to share it with the world not to boast but to show young people how many opportunities is really out there for them. To show you that all of us are humans with imperfections which makes us perfect. I feel the need to share as there are so many things happening in my life that I hope somewhere along the line I can inspire somebody else. I sometimes do not understand how I manage certain things and why I do it, but I guess life is a gift from God and what we do with it is a gift back to him. I hereby would like to share some moments captured at NACTV Studio while preparing and performing our links.

Sadly we have come to the end of the post.
Feel free to share your views below.
Check Miss2Beesy Facebook Page or NACTV Facebook Page to check the broadcasting schedule so that you can view the end product.
